1. Sagar Island

About 80 km of Kolkata, Sagar Island is a place of Hindu pilgrimage. It does not have any tiger habitation or mangrove forests making it safe for the tourists all round the year. Sagar Island attracts more than a million Hindus during Makar Sankranti every year. These devotees gather to take a holy dip at the confluence of river Ganges and the Bay of Bengal and offer prayers at the Kapil Muni Temple.

How to reach – You can easily avail a ferry from Namkhana to reach this holy island.

The Gangasagar fair and pilgrimage is the second largest mela in the world. Sagar Island is an enchanting place for all those looking for a spiritual cleansing and rejuvenation.

2. Jambudwip

One of the most isolated islands, Jambudwip is just 8kms from Bakkhali. Although it’s illegal to get down on the island, the journey to Jambudwip is itself mesmerizing and sheer captivating. The island’s beach is full of red crabs loitering all over and the island looks more of a forest with a wide clean beach.

How to reach – A ferry from Ferry Ghat, Bakkhali only takes 30-45 mins to reach here.

3. New Bakkhali

Not too far from Bakkhali to the east is a beach called the New Bakkhali beach which is almost untouched by tourists. The pristine white sand beach of New Bakkhali is considered as one of the best beaches of India because of its unhampered natural beauty. 4. Lothian Island

You are probably hearing about this island for the first time but it is a truly beautiful place. Lothian Island is better known as Lothian Island Wildlife Sanctuary. Estuarine crocodiles, Olive Ridley sea turtles, Spotted deer, Jungle cats and Rhesus Macaques are commonly found here. If u want to spend your time in nature’s lap this a must visit.

How to reach – Boats and Ferries ply all day between Sajnekhali and the Lothian Island but they have fixed timings so make note of timings of boat-rides before you embark upon this tour. Prior permission is needed from the officials to step down on this island.

5. Halliday Island

The Halliday Wildlife Sanctuary, commonly known as Halliday Island is one the three wildlife sanctuaries of the Sundarban Biosphere Reserve. If you want some adventure in your life, this is the place to be for some fun in nature. Situated in the Matla river, this sanctuary has spotted deer, wild boar,  Barking deer and Rhesus macaque. Many birds and endemic invertebrates also inhabit this spot whereas Tigers are only occasional visitors here.

How to reach – A boat can be easily availed from Sundarbans to come here.
